In the lead up to the election I have been getting a lot of new traffic, and I just wanted to gently prod those visiting on the ways you can get your regular Governmentitus updates.
1. Bookmark me. Simples.
2. Blogger. Add my url to the "blogs I am following" function on your blogger dashboard.
3. Governmentitus Facebook group. I have recently set this up. If you follow this facebook group which I will drop my links in for back to the blog; but you can also drop your own bloglinks or if you prefer newslinks in. The Group is there for members to share favourite posts and is there to highlight how sick we are of our Government. The more that follow the better the group will be. There is also the discussion and video functions.
4. Networked Blogs. The preferred tool for bloggers on Facebook.
5. Get a daily email. Just pop your email address into the field in my right hand side bar and Feedburner will do the rest.
6. RSS Feed. I am not an RSS user, but if you are you too can follow Governmentitus by clicking on the icon and adding me to your feed list.
7. Twitter. Follow me as Danny1979 on Twitter.

Free Daily Email
Just looking through the Google Stats a moment ago, and saw that aside from variations of sentences containing the word "climategate" a lot of people came here whilst searching for "Daniel1979".

Democracy 2.0
I am not really one for self promotion, but I see I have been included in Jury Teams email news letter called Democracy 2.0. It is sent out every week to registered email addresses and is my second mention since it started.
Here is what they had to say today:
We at the Jury Team are big fans of using the New Media to spread our message, so we were delighted to assist when an enterprising blogger asked to conduct a survey of our candidates.
Daniel1979, who blogs at www.daniel1979blog.blogspot.com, sent us a questionnaire to distribute to the candidates, with the promise of publishing their responses.
Over 20 candidates took him up on the offer, and Daniel has published their responses online without editing them down - another reason that we like the transparency of the blogosphere in contrast to the manipulation that goes on in the traditional press.
Daniel finally decided to cast his vote for Lyn Tofari (LYNTOF01) in the South East, but will continue to publish all candidate responses until the end of the primary.
This sort of interrogation of candidates' views by the public is precisely what doesn't happen in the main parties. We think that if people are casting their vote for a party list, they should know who the people are on that list, and what they stand for - and we think that publishing all answers is a healthy move for democratic engagement as well.
We'd like to thank Daniel for running the survey - and we are currently summarising all the responses and they will be presented on the blog very soon.

Well I have certainly been happy to help. As a result, I feel I have had a hand in selecting a candidate who best represents my views, and I hope I have encouraged a few people to take a look at an Independent alternative. Anyone who will be holding their nose whilst voting in the EU elections would be well served by giving the Jury Team site a visit and having a read. The candidates offer a wide spectrum of opinions and want to represent their respective regions with a direct relationship with the voters, not the Party Whip.
I did indeed as a result cast my vote for Lyn Tofari, and further down the mail shot I also saw that Lyn got a mention in the Buckinghamshire Advertiser.
There is only a week to go until the Primary closes so if you were leaving it late, now is the time.

My EU Scepticism
I blogged earlier here, mostly to link to Rupert Matthews piece on ConHome.
Part of the reason I wanted to start my own blog, was because I wanted to understand and influence peoples opinions on the the EU through debate; and to be able to reach a wider audience than I could just by posting on various MSM sites. However, I am under no illusions of this particular blogs reach.
So let me tell you this. My EU Scepticism began whilst I was studying at University. In an economics assignment we had to look at the proposed single currency. At the time, Britain had not all together ruled out of participation. I had in my teens been enthused by the idea of European Co-operation, and putting in place economic structures across the EU to rival the USA. It became clear through actually looking further than the news headlines that the UK would need to give up monetary and economic independence to be a participant. The price of participation was and is too high.
It is my belief that the more you read into the subject of the EU, the harder it is to like and appreciate it. It did not take long for me to recognise that the European Project was a one-way implementation whereby member nations gave up more and more to a central legislative, executive and judiciary. I find myself outraged some times at the extent of sovereign control that has been assumed by the EU over the UK without the UK populace having been consulted electorally. Power, is supposed to emanate from the people, not be accumulated centrally for control of the people.
The secretive and subversive manner in with the EU has gained control over the lives of the people of Europe should not go unquestioned. But it mostly has. Successive Conservative and Labour Governments have practiced subservience to the EU. Hardly inspirational is it? Make no mistake, it is not just the EU, it is Westminster.
Eventually, most ordinary people grow to dislike the EU. It is by realising this that we can account for the UK position (at home). Broadly, those who oppose it are largely people who have looked into it, who have been stung by it.
Those who actively support the EU are largely career politicians, and/or people who see professional & personal economic benefits. There are also those who see the potential for enforcement of a socialist state. The don't knows, in UK polls typically out-number the people in favour of the EU, especially when a hard question is asked such as for or against continued membership. These undecideds are the people that need to be awakened to the points in this particular debate, people have a remarkable capacity to form opinions when those opinions are deemed to matter.
My EU Scepticism started with and has grown since that project. I would very much like to hear why it is you are for or against the EU. I am also interested in what you think the UK should do on The EU, on Lisbon and on the EURO.

My First Blog
Hello
I would like to welcome you to this blog, and thank you for visiting.
Daniel1979 is the name I have been using for some time now when posting opinions to various newspaper websites and political blogs. Somewhere along the way I have developed something of a compulsion to check out certain opinion blogs as frequently as possible both to add my own comments, but also to see what other people have been commenting about.
I recently decided it might be a nice idea to have a try at hosting my own web page; and here it is. Thank goodness for Google Blogger for having created a tool to make it very easy to set up and manage such a website.
What can you expect to see on my blog? Unlike the newspapers and TV news websites it is very unlikely that you will find breaking news here; in fact unless this Blog develops a wide following, like Guido's Blog it is unlikely that I will be in a position to post any breaking news. However, it is my humble aim to post my own questions and opinions and allow those of you who are inclined to do so you opinions and reactions. These topics will largely focus on national and international politics. However, I would also like to occasionally post on other topics such as television, sport and culture.
As I have (for now) a full time job, posts may come in spurts... as such I will endeavour to leave a blank post periodically for general comments.
